Frustrating wood work

I refinished the beautiful large piece of ash faced plywood that caps the cabinet for the refridg and oven. It also face the door opening so it is very noticeable.
After geting it to look really fine, sealing up the small old screw holes, cleaning , staining and sealing, the board cracked as I lifted it up to move.
After a few choice words, I got out the wood glue and some strips of 3/4" thick wood, and cut then glued them on to brace where the crack happened. Luckily the crack was only in the backing plywood and did not go through the ash face.
Next I am going to add another plywood section in back to strengthen the whole piece. Hope that will make it strong enough to last and take the abuse of road travel.
